Next in scale mastery on the Chromatic will be the D Major Scale. Expect a bit of difficulty in that it is the first scale with two accidentals: C# and F#. But as our keyboard below shows, they are necessary to maintain the major scale intervals.
D Major Scale: D E F# G A B C# D
Note that while we sometimes play a blow E/slide and a C as a B draw/slide, those alternate methods will not work for F# and C#. You have to play a F draw/slide and a C blow slide.
In music notation (below), we see where the D major scale notes are along with the required hole and direction. Note the F# is 6 draw slide and C# is a 4blow/slide. As I play the scale, I am thinking the notes. When I get to the F#, I am thinking F raised a half step which is what using the slide does and C raised a half step.
Note the key signature of a D scale in music notation is shown by adding the sharp symbol to the C and F lines. Anytime you see two sharp symbols, it will be the key of D. Anytime you see a note on any of the C or F lines, you need to raise them a half step.
I have highlighted the notes requiring use of the slide in red. The tab is below. -2s should be interpreted as 2 draw/slide.
The following video shows me practicing the key of D scales and simple songs.
